TheZone is a two dimensional inertial space
arcade. If you like to drive a ship throughout open space, this is the
game for you. Thrust your ship, destroy asteroids, collect all bonuses,
blast out space bases (keep your eyes on the red ones) and bang out enemy
vessels. Practically everything bounces around because you are moving in
a physical space: all objects are solid, and love to collide with each
other. Forget about boring battles against stupid asteroids; you will have
enemies around chasing ya down!
New in version
1.5.1:
- compiled with CodeWarrior Pro 4
- the "Zap Scores" option now works correctly: the Hall Of Fame is reset
to zero
- sound volume settings are correctly saved together with the user's
preferences
- the ESC key aborts the current game
- fixed bug with collision effects, where the shields effect would collapse
into a circle

Tips and Tricks
-
Please, read the About section in the game.
-
During the first two waves there ain't nasties to bother about. Use these
waves to collect the highest number of bonuses possible. The best thing
would be to reach the third wave owning blue shots and nearly full ammunition.
If you don't succeed, don't panic: it's not always possible to achieve
such a setup.
-
Never leave any seekers (those ugly beatles) alive: when you encounter
one of them, you should chase and blast it.
-
One way to find your orientation is to stop as soon as you have blown a
mother base. This way, examining the direction from which bees will arrive,
you will be able to find surviving bases (well, if they ain't moving...).
-
Green barrels: they usually give you the equipment you need. So, when you
have full equipment, don't waste them to obtain shields; for example, you
should rather use only smart bombs, because those barrels will give you
your smarts back.
-
Red barrels: these objects might try to give you what you miss. When you'll
have full engine and shields power, they'll complete your selected equipment.
Take care to select the equipment you wish to be refueled before
fetching the red barrel. If you wish to get score instead, select an already
full equipment.
-
When you are fully equipped, try to leave a couple of white barrels around;
this way, should you die, you could return to the previous equipment soon.
-
The best shot to use when fighting red bases is the double one; get it
quickly if you have only red bases around.
-
Bees are worth more points if you leave them alive when you finish up a
wave.
